Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (Leading to CSCS Green Card)

Each year in the UK, thousands of people are killed, injured, or suffer work-related illnesses while carrying out their jobs, making health and safety a critical concern within the construction industry. The government, employers, and workers all have a legal and moral responsibility to reduce accidents, prevent ill health, and promote safe working practices.
This Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment course is designed for individuals starting out in the construction industry. It can be used as part of an induction process or as preparation for the online accredited exam. The qualification can also contribute towards applying for a CSCS Green Card, making it an essential foundation for anyone entering the construction workforce.
Course Overview
The course begins with an introduction to health and safety within the construction industry, outlining the legal responsibilities of employers and employees. Learners will gain an understanding of relevant legislation and why compliance is essential for maintaining safe working environments.
It then moves on to risk assessments and safe working practices, explaining how hazards are identified, risks are assessed, and appropriate control measures are implemented. The course explores the most common hazards found on construction sites, including slips, trips, falls, and working at height.
Further modules cover manual handling risks, the safe use of plant and machinery, noise exposure, and respiratory hazards commonly associated with construction work. Learners will also examine fire safety, electrical and gas hazards, and the dangers associated with chemicals and other on-site risks.
