Level 2 Food Safety - Manufacturing

Food handlers and their employers have a legal duty to manage food safety in accordance with EU and UK legislation. These laws require that all food prepared, cooked, served or sold is safe for human consumption. Failure to follow food safety standards can result in contamination, with potentially serious or fatal consequences.
This Level 2 Food Safety – Manufacturing course is designed to give employees a solid understanding of food safety risks specific to manufacturing environments and how these risks can be effectively controlled and prevented through safe working practices.

Course Overview

The course begins with an overview of food safety legislation and the responsibilities of both employers and employees within food manufacturing. It then explores common hazards that may arise throughout the food production process, from raw material delivery to finished product handling.


Learners will examine methods of risk control, focusing on preventing contamination through effective procedures, hygiene standards and safe systems of work. The course also covers the importance of maintaining clean premises, controlling pests and ensuring staff follow correct food safety practices.

  • Identify food safety hazards that can occur from delivery through to processing and dispatch.

  • Explain how contamination occurs and the methods used to prevent it.

  • Understand the principles of risk control within a manufacturing environment.

  • Recognise the importance of pest control, premises standards and staff hygiene in food safety.

This course is suitable for anyone working in a food manufacturing environment where food is prepared, processed or handled. Typical workplaces include food and drink manufacturing facilities supplying retail, catering or wholesale sectors. It is ideal for employees who have regular responsibility for food handling or production processes.

Further Progression
