Mental Health First Aid

Around 25 per cent of the UK population will experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives. While many conditions are mild, short-term, and treatable, mental health remains a significant workplace issue that requires awareness, understanding, and appropriate support.
This Mental Health First Aid course introduces learners to the principles of mental health first aid and explains how it can be used to support individuals experiencing mental health difficulties or signs of substance misuse in the workplace. It highlights the importance of early intervention, workplace wellbeing schemes, and creating a supportive organisational culture where mental health is taken seriously.
Course Overview
The course begins with an introduction to mental health and Mental Health First Aid, outlining what it is and the benefits it can bring to individuals, teams, and organisations. Learners will explore workplace wellness schemes and how they support a healthier and more productive working environment.
It then examines stress in the workplace, focusing on how stress affects individuals and teams, and how prolonged stress can contribute to mental health issues. The relationship between stress, wellbeing, and performance is explored in detail.
The course goes on to outline the roles and responsibilities of employers, managers, and employees in ensuring the success of a Mental Health First Aid programme. Learners will gain insight into how leadership and management approaches can positively influence mental wellbeing at work.
The final section focuses on practical application, using real-life scenarios to demonstrate how Mental Health First Aid can be applied in the workplace. Learners will explore how to support colleagues experiencing mental health difficulties and where to signpost them for further help, support, and professional advice.
