Service Description

This course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to select and mount abrasive wheels safely in accordance with current regulations. It covers the legal responsibilities of both employers and employees, the correct identification of different types of abrasive wheels, and the potential hazards associated with their use. Learners will also gain an understanding of proper storage, handling, and inspection techniques to ensure safe and effective operation. Course Overview This course is designed to provide participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely select, inspect, and mount abrasive wheels in accordance with current health and safety regulations. The training ensures compliance with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 and promotes best practice for the safe operation of abrasive wheels in the workplace. Course Length Duration: Half day (approximately 4 hours, including theory and practical elements) What You Will Learn By the end of this course, participants will be able to: Identify the different types of abrasive wheels and their applications Understand legal responsibilities under PUWER 1998 and relevant Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance Recognise common hazards associated with abrasive wheel use and apply appropriate control measures Inspect abrasive wheels for damage or defects prior to use Safely mount, balance and test abrasive wheels on suitable machines Apply safe working practices, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and machine guards Who Is It For This course is suitable for: Anyone involved in selecting, using, or mounting abrasive wheels Workshop technicians, machine operators, maintenance personnel, and supervisors Individuals responsible for health and safety compliance within workshops, engineering, or manufacturing environments Assessment Method Participants will be assessed through: A short written or multiple-choice test to confirm understanding of key principles Practical observation to demonstrate safe wheel mounting and inspection procedures Certification Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Competence in Abrasive Wheels Safety, valid for three years. Prerequisites No formal qualifications are required. However, participants should have a basic understanding of workshop safety and be physically capable of handling tools and equipment safely.

Booking, Cancellation & Attendance Policy Refund Eligibility The following cancellation charges apply: More than 14 days before the Course: Full refund (minus a £15 admin fee) 7–14 days before the Course: 50% of Fee payable Less than 7 days before the Course: 100% of Fee payable Late Cancellations Cancellations made less than 7 days before the course start date are not eligible for a refund. How to Cancel All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via email to: katy@solenttrainingsolutions.co.uk No-Shows Participants who do not attend the course and fail to provide cancellation notice will not receive a refund. Late Arrivals Please aim to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled course start time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after the published start time, you may be refused entry. Refunds will not be issued to participants who are refused entry due to late arrival.
